Other Works

We’re now a bit over half of the way through the Alex Verus alternate ending mini-series – the next two posts in it will cover the “Bad Things Happen” alternate ending, i.e. the one that lots of people liked.  (We’ll see how much they still like it once they see it fully played out.)  For now, though, here’s a brief update on the other things I’ve been working on.

The new book in the new series is sitting with my publisher.  They’re being rather slow about getting the edits back to me, so I still don’t know what they think of it.  We do have a rough release date, though – autumn of 2023.  On the downside, the fact that it’s so far away means I can probably expect them to continue to take their time.

But since I’ve got some spare time, I’ve started work on a new Alex Verus novella.  I’m about 5,000 words in, and it’s going pretty well so far.  More details to come!

Can’t wait to read the novella!!!

Sorry your publisher is being slow to get back to you. Assuming you can’t start book 2 til you get feedback about requested edits to book 1?

  2. Benedict says:

Basically, yes. It’s difficult to write book 2 in a series if you’re not 100% sure about every detail in book 1. This is particularly an issue for the first book in a series (which usually gets the most editing work).

Fingers crossed your publisher loves every damn word of book 1. 😉

After finishing the rewriting of the new book, you sounded quite optimistic that the publishers would like it. Tough they are taking their time with editing, I would guess that youre feelings on the topic after writing the Ninja- and Alex-Verus-books are quite accuarate. In short: I wouldn’t worry too much ;o)

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to the novella. Can you give us a hint on who it is about this time or will that be a secret until you’ve finished?

I’ll let you know more once the first draft is done. 🙂 What I can tell you is that it’s a sort of extra epilogue to the main story, set some months after the events of book 12.

I really can’t wait to read it! :oD

Looking forward to the novella. Will you self publish it? Hopefully your publisher will embrace the new series as well.

Can we get an April Fools novella please. Where Alex finishes a very long path walk of his divination, and returns back to his shower several books back. And decides to go somewhere else completely different to get a different story.

I love the ending of this series, very satisfied with it. I like the idea these good, bad and??? endings are options he divined through to take his pic.

I am really interested in your new book. Can you at least tell us what the book is about?
