New Year, New Books

In to 2024!  Here’s what to expect for the next few months.

Right at the moment I’m once again busy with edits on An Instruction In Shadow;  specifically, first-round edits from my UK editor.  Usually I do my US and UK edits side by side, but in this case the UK ones arrived a little later, meaning that I’ve had to put Book 3 on hold briefly while I finish this up.  Luckily, just like before, these edits are extremely quick and easy and I’m expecting to have them done by the end of the weekend so that I can get back to my main job.

That job is, of course, writing Book 3 in the Stephen Oakwood series.  I’m currently a few pages in and busy plotting out the first couple of chapters;  it’s got a long way to go but I’m always much happier once the first page is done, so I’m hoping to keep up a decent pace.  This is going to keep me busy for around the first half of the year.

As for this blog, my main project (aside from the usual updates) is going to be more Beginner’s Guide to Drucraft worldbuilding articles.  First on the to-do list is the article on shaping, and after that I’m probably going to go into a mini-series on the six drucraft branches.  That’ll probably keep me busy until well into the spring.

And that’s it!  I’ll post news as and when I get it, but you can probably expect edits on Book 2, a first draft of Book 3, and worldbuilding articles on this blog to be pretty much all of my output for the forseeable future.

Do you know if Will Watt will be reading book 2? Really loved his narration on book 1, and it’s awesome he won an award for it!!!

Mr. Jacka’s adult fantasy books have become my very favorite commuting fare. I am disinclined to visit authors’ blogs and fan pages, because all I really want is the finished product, and this is most pleasurably experienced without any presuppositions or hints as to what’s coming. But it’s good to know there are works in the pipeline; I will be first in line to purchase! Thank you!

  3. Andrew says:

Awesome! Can’t wait to read book 2! Am currently listening to book 1 for about the 10th time. Loved your Alex Verus series too!

  4. Nick says:

Hehe Andrew, I have to admit (guilty secret) that I’m on my 5th listen through of the first book too (so I while to catch up with you). Just such a long time until Book 2 coming out.
Also Celia: I echo your comments about Will Watt – he really brings the books & characters to life. Goodness know how he manages all those accents!!

Looking forward to your revelations on Shaping and the branches of Drucraft sounds like a overview of the Exchange Catalogue. That’s something I’m definitely looking forward to reading.
Are you thinking about having an “Ask Luna” column at some stage? It gives us a wonderful forum for clearing up questions that may arise from the books…

  6. Benedict says:

    Celia: He should be!

Bill: I’ve thought about it, but it’s probably too early for it as yet. I’d be more likely to do that once I start to run out of worldbuilding articles.

  7. Bill says:

Glad that you are considering an “Ask Luna” type column – something to look forward to, but World Building first seems the logical choice (as long as it doesn’t interfere with your writing or Real Life tasks!).

  8. Alicia says:

I loved the audiobooks for the Verus series: Gildart Jackson was so good. But, as much as I loved his narration, I think enjoyed Will Watt’s narration even more (I’ve already listened to it 3x!). I can’t wait to listen to the new one!

  9. Celia says:

    Benedict: Great news, thanks! 🙂

  10. Horacio says:

Thank you for the wonderful books you write.
