General Update

Some odd bits and pieces of news for this week:

Alex Verus #11, after a slow start, has managed to build up a bit of momentum.  It’s at around the 30% mark and moving along much more comfortably.  If all goes to plan, I’ll finish the first draft some time in the autumn and the completed book will come out during the second half of next year.

The release date of Fallen (Alex Verus #10) is unchanged – it’ll be coming out in about three months, on September 24th 2019 in the US and October 10th 2019 in the UK.  Yeah, I know, this isn’t really news, but I try to repeat release dates at intervals since I know that ‘when’s the next book coming out?’ is the number one question people come to this website to answer.

Finally, a question:  I’m planning to do another Reddit AMA around the release of Fallen, and I’m currently deciding when would be the best time.  Usually I try to do them about a week or so after release, but the release dates for the US and UK being more than two weeks apart makes that trickier.  Given that Reddit is mostly populated by people from the US, I might go for around the beginning of October, but it’s a bit inconvenient for my British readers.  Let me know if you have any opinion either way!

Do we have a release date for the audiobooks?

I’m in the US, but a Reddit AMA a week after the British update would be fine with me. I think the British fans should have a chance to participate if they so choose.

Also in the US. I have no problem waiting for the AMA. I think it would be good to let all readers, no matter where they are, have the opportunity to read and enjoy the book prior to the AMA. 🙂

I’m super happy about the book release though!!!!

There is an alternative. If you are willing, you could do two reddit AMA’s. One before either US or UK release, and then one again after both have released. Visibility never hurt marketing, and while this site is probably more active than some other authors, the community for the Alex Verus series over on Reddit could use some development. Also if you do the one before either release, you get to say “Na na na I’m not gonna tell you!” quite a bit, which according to Jim Butcher is like crack for writers.

  5. Sheryl says:

Difficult for you as if you do the US one, a lot of those who get the UK version won’t have even read it. That’s going to mean a lot of spoilers or partially answered questions so the UK readers won’t have the book ruined for them.

Given you’re a British author, would the later one be better?

  6. Alicia says:

I would also vote to do the Reddit AMA after the British release. It’s going to be hard enough for some folks to avoid spoilers without adding the AMA into the mix.

  7. Kevin says:

Although I would prefer it to be as soon as possible I think it is only fair to British readers that it goes nearer there release date. At the very least it would make questions with spoilers more easily managed when Fallen is available to everyone.
