Fallen US Release Week

It’s been a long wait, but at last, we’re nearly there!  The tenth Alex Verus novel, Fallen, comes out this week in the US & Canada on Tuesday 24th September.

As usual, the book will be released in the US in mass market paperbook, ebook, and audio formats (you can see them on Amazon here.)  Gildart Jackson will be returning as narrator for the audiobook.

UK readers will have to wait for the UK release on October 10th.  Once that’s done, I’ll be doing a Reddit AMA on October 17th.  In the meantime, if you can’t wait, or want a sample, you can read Chapters 1 & 2 of Fallen here.

One bit of advance warning that I should probably share – Fallen is very much a series book rather than a standalone.  I always try to put enough recaps in my books so that they’re not totally incomprehensible to new readers, but Fallen follows on very closely from book #9, Marked, and while you don’t have to have read Marked to understand what’s going on, this is the absolute worst book to be starting the series with.  This is going to be the pattern from now on – the last two books in the Alex Verus series, numbers 11 and 12, will follow on very closely from Fallen, and if you read books #7-#9 but skip Fallen, you are going to be REALLY confused at how the hell Alex ends up where he is at the beginning of book #11.

The positive side to this is that it allows me to tell a much more involved story.  With Fallen, we’re getting into the ‘endgame’ of the Alex Verus series.  Fallen wraps up the storylines of three minor series characters, and book #11 will wrap up a lot more.  If you’ve been enjoying the series this far, I think you’ll like it!

I can’t wait for Tuesday to start reading Fallen – and now I can’t wait for the next book in the series as well!

Man, I love these books, I have them all in audio format and have listened to books 1-8 several times. I have yet to listen to 9 and I pre-ordered 10 but I dont want to listen to it either. If I listen, then I am closer to the end, since Benedict will only write 12 books. I dont think this is fair, we should be able to get more books out of Mr. Jacka.

Maybe if we do a Kickstarter campaign and raise some money, we can extend the series to maybe 15 books?

Giving the title I am really dreading what will happen to Alex and Anne, I hope it won’t be like Burned I don’t know how I could handle a year’s wait with a cliffhanger! And I am also worried about what will happen to Arachne, although I also think Onyx and Deleo will get there well earned comeuppance. That being said I think this book will answer a lot about Richard, his powers and plans, his feelings towards Alex, Alex gaining a powerup and also set in motion the Endgame as it were so I can’t wait until Tuesday arrives!

I love this series. I have fallen in love with the main characters and I have listened to all 10 so far. I can’t wait to get #11 and #12 when they are released. Oh my gosh, keep on with Alex. He is one of the best heroes I’ve read/listened to. When I find books like this, series wise and I get into them full-on, it’s like I have magical friends I worry about. I know it sounds corny but that is the way I enjoy well-written books.

Thank you, Mr. Jacka, for such good entertainment. The person doing the narration makes it come alive even more in the audios.
