An Instruction in Shadow – Chapter 2 Online

Chapter 2 of the second book in the Inheritance of Magic series, An Instruction in Shadow, is now online!  You can read it here.

This will be the last extract for An Instruction in Shadow.  The full novel will release in a little over a month, on October 15th in the US and Canada.  (The UK/worldwide release will be a couple of days later, on October 17th.)  As usual, there’ll be an audio edition to go with the print and ebook versions.

I’m currently busy signing the 500 title pages for the 500 signed copies of An Instruction in Shadow sold by the Broken Binding.  It’s the second time I’ve done this and I’d forgotten just how much time it takes.  Also, my signature gets steadily more illegible the more of them I do.

Many thanks for today’s chapter! It moved things on a bit and his reaction to the phone call was ….. Interesting!
Sadly I’m off on holiday when the Instruction In Shadow is released but with the Audio Book being instant I’m hoping that the Croatia hotel’s WiFi is up for the download…

  2. Jason Enberg says:

lol. I can see how the signature can get more illegible as you go on. 🙂

I have my Broken Binding order in for volume two and I’m excited for its arrival. It’s great having hard covers for Inheritance of Magic and soon Instruction In Shadow.

Hey there! I was looking on broken binding’s page to order volume 2 but couldn’t find it.. is already online or did I miss something?
      Thank you in advance!

I don’t think it’s available yet to the general public for pre-ordering. BB sent out emails to folks who got the special edition of book #1 to give them first crack at getting book #2. they also sent us a link to fill out a form so we can get a matching number for book 2.

  3. Jim Sackman says:

I have completed my reread (well really relisten) to An Inheritance of Magic. Looking back I had one thought that might impact the future of the series. That is the difference of the power level between Stephen and the sides fighting at Chancery Lane. Other than his haywire sigils, Stephen would have not done anything to either side. Makes me think that running after Lucella was a really, really bad idea.

    • Celia says:

And what do you make of the crows and Lucella’s reaction to them, in the rooftop scene?!? 🙂 I loved that ending and the conversation with Byron.

  4. Jim Sackman says:

I assume that the crows are spies for one group or another. That is not the only time we have seen them. It seems pretty clear that we have at least one shadowy group that is out there (Byron’s). It is unclear if the crows are related to him or Stephen’s father or some other party. It is pretty clear to me that Father Hawk is related to Stephen’s father and indirectly warned Stephen off of Byron.

  5. Moritz says:

The essentia description in this chapter sounds surprisingly similar to neutrinos. I wonder if this is a funny coincidence or if Benedict has been inspired by elementary physics.

  6. Congrats! Looking forward to it!
