Done!

Posted on November 6, 2026 by Benedict

Well, it’s taken almost 10 months, but Inheritance of Magic #5 is finished!

Over the next few days I’ll check in with my beta readers, give it an edit, and send it off early next week.  For now, though, I’m going to take a break.

How exciting! I am a new reader though, so when you say “Well, it’s taken almost 10 months.” does that imply it took an unusual amount of time for you to finish book 5?

A little longer than it took me to do the Alex Verus novels, a little faster than the previous ones in the Inheritance of Magic series. It varies by a month or two either way from book to book.

    Hi Benedict,
it’s exciting to see that a new book in this series is coming out – I can’t wait!
I’m a bit puzzled, though: afaik there’s only 3 books published in this series, and your website also only mentions 3. So, if this is book 5… what happened to book 4? Am I missing something?

Never mind, I read your previous posts and found my answer. It was astonishing to find out that it takes a full year (or more!) from book submission to the editor to its final publication. I didn’t expect such long times.
