Happy New Year, everyone! Here’s what I’ve got planned for 2025.
Now that the edits on Book 3 are done, my big project for the first half of this year is going to be writing the first draft of Book 4 in the Inheritance of Magic series. I’d hoped to have started by now, but edits took a little longer than expected and in any case this one is going to take a fair amount of work to plan out – it’s effectively the start of a new ‘mini-trilogy’ within the series, where I’ll have to start off a bunch of new plotlines. Organising that kind of thing takes time, so I don’t have a fixed start date as yet. But no matter how long it takes, that’s what I’m going to be spending most of my time on for the foreseeable future.
Speaking of Book 3, it now has a title: A Judgement of Powers. The last of the first-round edits are finished, and I’m just waiting for the copy-edits, which should come through some time this month. In any case, the book’s pretty much finalised at this point, so I’m not thinking about it very much any more. Book 4 is the priority.
As for the website, I’ve got some more Beginner’s Guide to Drucraft articles lined up ready to go. The next few will be a mini-series on Motion essentia: first an overview of the branch, then a couple more describing some of the more common Motion sigls, including most of the ones you’ve see in the books so far. After that I think we’ll take a break from the Drucraft branches and do something a bit different, since I don’t want to do all six branches one after the other without a break. Possible topics include: corporations (similar to the House articles that I did last year), attunement (what makes a sigl compatible with a wielder), country affinities, and sigl recycling (since this is one that readers have asked about a lot). Haven’t decided which to do first.
Hope your New Year goes well, and I’ll be seeing you around!
Hi, happy to hear that you are starting with book 4 of Inheritance of Magic series.
I just finished the Alex Verus series in German and I absolutely loved it. It is my favourite book series of all time. Thanks
Looking forward to buy the first book of the Inheritance of Magic series in German when it releases this march.
Happy new year to everyone ❤️
Hi Benedict,
love the Inheritance of Magic series so far!
I’m especially looking forward to your articles on corporations – maybe with some hints as to how the corporations manage to keep Drucraft more or less secret from the general public, despite so many of their employees constantly using Drucraft on a global scale?
Happy new year!
Yay for book 3, and great title! Can’t wait to read another book in this series. 🙂 I’m personally very interested in attunement. We really don’t know much about it!
I love the Beginner’s Guide to Drucraft series. I can’t wait to read the next article.
I’m REALLY interested in learning how someone would recycle old/useless sigls. I mean, Stephen must have quite a collection of them by now! I think he doesn’t throw them away because creating them was such a a huge investment of time & effort on his part, not to mention the value of the essentia locked up in them. So, if he could get some use out of them (hopefully using them to make more powerful sigls!), that would be great.
I’m also very curious about attunement & would love to read more about that!
I would love to see Stephen conduct some experiments with attunement sometime – for science. Like trying the sigls of different family members to see how well or poorly they work for him. I am sure Charles would be delighted to loan Stephen his personal sigl for an experiment. 😉 But it probably wouldn’t be too hard to convince Bridget. Or maybe his mum. Though I’m not sure if we’ve ever seen his mom use a sigl…? Hmmm.
Love to read about country affinities 🙂
Happy New year and good luck with the planning and writing of Book#4. By the way, I love the title for the 3rd Book, I just wish that it was coming a bit (ie a lot) sooner!
I am interested in how Essentia is extracted from wells by the Raiders (and also how it is removed from unwanted Sigls too) and then stored (?) as Aurum.
By accumulating a large amount of Aurum from the wells Stephen has access to (Class D and lower?), he could presumable make some of the higher level Sigls that would conventionally need a Class ‘A’ or ‘S’ Well to construct?
Just to add, we have seen three groups of raiders in the series (four if you count Stephen’s) and only Tier had taken along a technician to extract the Essentia…
Happy New Year!
