Back home from my holiday, and as promised, here’s an overview of how things are going with the Inheritance of Magic series!
Book #4 in the series, A Progression of Demons, will be published in hardback/ebook on March 23, 2027. As usual, the audio edition will be coming out around the same time. Narrator is the same guy who did the last three, Will Watt – if all goes well he’ll be voicing the entire series. The UK paperback edition will be released later on.
Book #5 in the series is into its last stretch. It’s currently around the 80,000-85,000 word mark, and I’m working on what should be the last section. Another 15,000 words or so and it should be done. I’m hoping to get it finished in October – fingers crossed!
Worldbuilding articles are still kind of in limbo at the moment. Due to various issues that I’ll get into in at a later date, I’m more pressed for time than usual and I’m struggling to keep up with the writing and other duties. This happens from time to time and inevitably the result is that I have to start letting lower-priority stuff fall by the wayside, and worldbuilding articles are unfortunately one of those lower-priority things. I do have a few ones planned out, but it’ll probably be some time before I get around to writing them.
Alex Verus #9, Marked, is supposed to be featured as a Science Fiction and Fantasy Goldbox Deal on 10/11/26, priced at $1.99. I’ll post closer to the time when it’s confirmed.
And that’s about all for now! More news as and when I get it.

Do you think that you will get the first draft to the publishers so they can start pulling the release date back towards November 2027 again? I hope that the publishers are aware that Book#5 draft will be with them shortly so they can (this time) arrange to have the copy edits done swiftly?
I’m curious about this too. I hesitate to get too hopeful, though, given how the first “draft” of Book 4 sat untouched with the publishers for so long…
I could be wrong, but my impression is that the publishers may not be interested in publishing Book 5 quite so soon after Book 4. In the “Book 4 delayed to March 2027” post, it seemed like seven months simply wasn’t enough time for them to edit and publish a book. If we were hoping for a late November release for Book 5, that would give them around eight months, which seems like it might be cutting it rather close.
And they did wait five months before even beginning to edit the Book 4 draft, so I’m not sure how much of the timeline is actually dependent on Benedict getting the manuscript to them sooner. I’d certainly be happy to be proven wrong, though!
Yeah… Let’s just hope they start editing book 5 as soon as possible. From what I understood book 4 is technically ready for publishing (unless it is still in the proofreading stage), so if they could start editing book 5 as soon as they are done with that… Maybe there’s hope for us?
No pre xmas present this year (coal) . I love the series . I am older and hope I live to finish it ( kidding but I was looking forward to the audiobook this year). I have listened to the 3 several times. Anyway appreciate the information and great storytelling. You and yours the best!
